Steel vs aluminum bike rack

You’re probably wondering what the difference is between these two racks apart from the price? Aluminum racks are cheaper and more popular, but they have one drawback – in the event of mechanical damage (e.g. collision), their repair is very difficult because a special aluminum welding machine is needed.

Steel racks are chosen by all bicycle travelers who go to hard-to-reach regions away from larger cities. If your steel rack is damaged, just go to a regular car repair shop and ask them to weld your steel rack together – this won’t be a problem with a steel rack. Finding an aluminum welding machine somewhere in Central Asia or Africa can be quite a challenge.
